Content analysis of transformations of representation of masculinities in the magazine Bravo

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis concerns transformations of representation of masculinity from the perspective of the traditional and new manhood in Bravo magazines. The main research method of this work is content analysis. Three different editions of magazines were selected to find and determine whether the mechanisms of men representation have changed over time and how currently inflected crises of manhood and its transformation is reflected in media content. The theoretical part of this bachelor thesis is based on media concepts (social construction of reality, hegemony, representation, stereotyping) and gender concepts (sex, gender, gender socialization, traditional male roles, crisis of male identity, new manhood).

Abstract:

Bakalárska práca sa zameria na premeny reprezentácie maskulinít z pohľadu tradičnej maskulinity a nových mužstiev vo vybranom časopise pre mládež Bravo. Metódou obsahovej analýzy sa na vybraných číslach troch ročníkov pokúsime zistiť, či sa mechanizmy v reprezentácii mužstva menili v priebehu času a ako sa v obsahu média odzrkadľuje v súčasnosti skloňovaná kríza mužstva a s ňou spojené premeny mužskej identity. V teoretickej časti bude bakalárska práca vychádzať z mediálnych konceptov (sociálna konštrukcia reality, hegemónia, reprezentácia, stereotypizácia) a genderových konceptov (pohlavie, gender, genderova socializácia, tradičné mužské role, kríza mužskej identity, nové mužstvá).
