Influence of living vegetation on the development of steps and pools in headwater streams

Abstract:

Tato práce vysvětluje zákonitosti vzniku korytové formy stupeň-tůň tvořené živou vegetací a říčním dřevem s pomocí mého vlastního výzkumu v oblasti Nízkého Jeseníku na několika různých potocích. První část mé práce pojednává o funkci říčního dřeva a vegetace ve fluviálních ekosystémech, poté objasňuji užitou metodiku, připojuji několik důležitých výsledků v podobě grafické analýzy mého měření a v závěru diskutuji o poznatcích vyplývajících ze statistického zhodnocení dat. Účelem terénní části bylo zjistit frekvenci výskytu stupňů-tůní v mém zájmovém území a u nalezených vzorků zjistit co nejvíce kvantitativních údajů, které by mohly napovídat o vzniku a funkci stupňů tvořených dřevem (živou vegetací i mrtvým). Pro vyhodnocení výsledků používám údaje 48 nalezených stupňů-tůní v rozmezí 10.3.2019-18.5.2019 v pramenných oblastech potoků, nebo jejich přítoků. Měření probíhalo na území čtyřech obcí a dvou obvodů statutárního města Ostravy.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the formation of step-pools using the data gathered from my own research in the area of Nízký Jeseník on several different streams. The first part of my work deals with the function of wood and vegetation in fluvial ecosystems, then I clarify the methodology I used. The relevant and significant results are then shown in the attached graphical analysis of my measurement. In the conclusion I discuss the findings resulting from statistical data evaluation. The purpose of the fieldwork was to determine the frequency of occurrence of step-pools in my area of interest and to measure as many quantitative data as possible in the samples found, which could indicate the origin and function of steps formed by either living vegetation or dead wood. For the evaluation of the results I use the data of 48 step-pools found between 10th of March and 18th of May 2019 in the source areas of the streams or their tributaries. The measurement took place on the territory of four municipalities and two districts of the Statutory City of Ostrava.
