A look at the changes to volunteering in health and social care facilities during the first phase of Covid 19

Abstract:

Abstrakt Cílem této práce bylo zmapovat proces poklesu zájmu o akreditované dobrovolnictví, a to zejména v etapě takzvané první vlny covidové pandemie. Průzkumné šetření je lokálně zaměřeno na oblast Litoměřic. Podrobně je sledován chod dobrovolnického centra Diecézní charity Litoměřice, a je popsáno, co vše ovlivňovalo jak proces koordinace dobrovolníků, tak samotný výkon dobrovolnické činnosti v daném centru. Kromě tohoto centra se práce věnuje i dobrovolnictví ve zdravotnictví (v místní nemocnici), které organizoval Český červený kříž. Zdrojem dat jsou především vyjádření aktérů dobrovolnictví v dané oblasti, e-mailová komunikace s nimi, ale taktéž e-mailová komunikace koordinátora dobrovolnického centra Diecézní charity Litoměřice, a to jak s dobrovolníky, tak institucemi, dalšími organizacemi ale také kolegy v rámci Diecézní charity. Na základě pečlivého rozboru těchto dokumentů, které v případě nejasností doplnily osobní či telefonické výpovědi participantů, je snaha o hluboké pochopení problematiky. Postupováno bylo dle principů kvalitativního přístupu, a využito přitom bylo metodologické triangulace. Realizováno tedy bylo průzkumné šetření s prvky historického výzkumu. Během zkoumání bylo zjištěno, že si mnoho dobrovolníků odnáší z pandemie spíše traumata a nejistoty než nějaké pozitivní emoce. Emailová komunikace svědčí o tom, že docházelo ze strany vládních orgánů k mnoha změnám a restrikcím, které měly na dobrovolnictví velké dopady v dlouhodobém měřítku. Je tedy důležité, aby došlo k intenzivnímu studiu problematiky, a docílilo se změn na poli organizovaného dobrovolnictví.

Abstract:

Summary The aim of this paper was to map the process of decline in interest in accredited volunteering, in particular during the first wave of the covid pandemic. Research focuses locally on the Litoměřice area. The operation of the volunteer center of the Diocesan Charity Litoměřice was followed in detail and it was described what influenced both the process of volunteer coordination and the actual performance of volunteering in the center. In addition to this center, this thesis also looks at volunteering in the healthcare sector (at the local hospital), which was organized by the Czech Red Cross. The sources of data are mainly the statements of the actors of volunteering in the given area, e-mail communication with them, but also e-mail communication with the coordinator of the volunteer center of the Diocesan Charity Litoměřice, both with volunteers, institutions, other organizations, and also colleagues within the Diocesan Charity. On the basis of a careful analysis of these documents, supplemented in case of ambiguity by personal or telephone statements of our participants, it was tried to gain a deep understanding of the issues. The principles of a qualitative approach using methodological triangulation were followed. Therefore, an exploratory investigation with elements of historical research was conducted. During research, it was found that many volunteers took away trauma and uncertainty from the pandemic rather than any positive emotions. Email communications indicate that there were many changes and restrictions from the state authorities that had major impacts on volunteering in the long term. Therefore it is important that there is an intensive study of the issue to achieve changes in the field of organized volunteering.
