The Concept of Bodhicitta of the 14th Dalai Lama

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je zkoumání a porozumění altruismu u 14. dalajlamy. Výzkumná otázka zní, jaký je vztah mezi jeho chápáním altruismu z hlediska jeho osobní duchovní praxe, což se týká pěstování bódhičitty a tím, co je jeho sekulární etikou. Je zde představeno, co je to bódhičitta a zdali může mít určité analogie k tomu, co je dalajlamovou sekulární etikou. První část práce se snaží ukázat, kdo je bódhisattva a proč je pro něj bódhičitta zásadní. Druhá část předkládá, jakým způsobem dalajlama bódhičittu pojímá a jak se může vztahovat k jeho pojetí sekulární etiky.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis examines the concept of altruism in the teaching of the 14th Dalai Lama. The thesis examines the relationship between Dalai Lama's understanding of altruism in terms of his personal spiritual practice, which concerns cultivating bodhicitta, and his concept of so called secular ethics. Possible analogies between the term bodhicitta and Dalai Lama's concept of secular ethics are discussed in detail throughout this thesis. The first part of the thesis deals with significance of the concept bodhicitta for the figure of a bodhisattva. The second part discusses how Dalai Lama conceives bodhicitta and how is it can related to his conception of secular ethics.
