Parental mediation of internet use: The perspective of adolescents

Abstract:

Tato výzkumná práce se zaměřuje na rodičovskou mediaci užívání internetu u dospívajících ve věku 14 až 17 let. Cílem výzkumu je zjistit, jak mediační strategie užívání internetu hodnotí adolescenti ze svého úhlu pohledu. Pro analýzu byla využita data z dotazníkového šetření, které autorka prováděla na čtyřech školách v Jihomoravském kraji. Celkem bylo sesbíráno 360 dotazníků z osmnácti tříd. Data byla zpracována kvantitativně pomocí softwaru IBM SPSS Statistics 24. Regresní a korelační analýzy ukázaly, že vybrané typy rodičovské media-ce ovlivňují, nakolik je bude respondent hodnotit jako dostačující ochranu před riziky na internetu nebo nakolik se bude cítit ve svém pohybu online rodičovskou mediací omezován. Data také naznačila, že čas rodiče strávený online a míra, s jakou respondentovi vadí, kolik tohoto času na internetu rodič tráví, slabě predikuje i to, nakolik bude pravidla jeho mediace dodržovat. Zjištění jsou porovnávána s dosavadními studiemi o rodičovské mediaci užívání internetu a jejích efektech a s poznatky o internetu a jeho roli v rodinách.

Abstract:

This thesis is concerned with the internet use mediation applied to adolescents at the age of 14 to 17. The aim of this study is to discover the parental mediation strategies effect perceived by their adolescents. The data for this research were collected in 4 schools in the South-Moravian region. There were 360 questionnaires collected from 18 school classes. Data were analyzed by quantitative methods using IBM SPSS Statistics 24 software. The regression and correlation outcomes showed that the selected parental mediation types predict the extent to which the respondent assessed the online risk protection as sufficient or to which they felt being restricted in internet use. The data also showed a positive relationship between the time that parents spent online and how much it bothered the respondent. To what extent the respondent feels bothered by the parent`s online time is a weak predictor of how the parental mediation rules will be followed. All the fin-dings are compared with previous research on parental mediation of internet use and research on the role of the internet in families.
