Khaled Hosseinis novel And the Mountains Echoed in Czech and German Translation. A Comparison.

Abstract:

The translated diploma thesis is focused on the analysis of the translations of the novel And the Mountains Echoed written by an american Author with Afghan roots Khaled Hosseini. The subject of the analysis is the english original of the text and the german and czech translation where the translated texts will be compared to each other and to the original text. The thesis is separated in two parts – the theoretical and the practical part. The theory of the translation and the most occurence of linguistic phenomena of the analysed document are described in the introduction. The diploma is further focused on translation issues – contrastive analysis, the choice of titles, the translation of exotic names and life and customs, the influence of english to the translation syntax and the lexicalised anglicisms in the litrature of translation. Specific examples complete these parts. The key part represents the glossary of foreign words and the final translation of an until now not translated text – interview with the author of the book – which should show my own translation techniques and insights.

Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce se zabývá analýzou překladů románu And the Mountains Echoed amerického autora afghánského původu Khaleda Hosseiniho. Předmětem rozboru jsou anglicky psaný originál textu a jeho německý a český překlad, přičemž budou přeložené texty konfrontovány jak vzájemně, tak i s výchozím textem. Práce je rozdělena do dvou částí – teoretické a praktické. V úvodu je představena teorie překladu a nejčastější jazykové jevy vyskytující ve zkoumaném materiálu. Dále se práce věnuje překladatelským problémům – kontrastivní analýze, volbě knižních titulů, překladu exotických názvů a reálií, vlivu angličtiny na syntax překladu a lexikálním anglicismům v překladové literatuře. Tyto části jsou doplněny o konkrétní příklady. Klíčovou část tvoří glosář cizích slov a závěrečný překlad dosud nepřeloženého textu – rozhovoru s autorem knihy – který by měl ukázat mé vlastní překladatelské postupy adovednosti.
