Sedimenty představují prostředí, ve kterém se často akumulují organické a anorganické polutanty antropogenního původu. Proto jsou kontaminované sedimenty předmětem zájmu mnoha ekotoxikologických studií. Toxicita sedimentů je většinou měřena pomocí biotestů s vodnými nebo organickými extrakty. Sediments represent an enviroment in which organic and anorganic pollutants of antropogenic origin often accumulate. Thaťs why there are a lot of ecotoxicological studies in which contaminated sediments are subject of interest.
