Usage of open information sources in Competitive Intelligence

Abstract:

Tato práce je zaměřena na oblast otevřených zdrojů informací a jejich roli v competitive intelligence (CI). Rozdělena je do čtyř částí. První část se zabývá charakteristikou činnosti competitive intelligence, v rámci čehož je tento pojem nejprve definován a vymezen. Po stručném popisu historického vývoje následuje popis různých způsobů dělení CI a zpravodajského cyklu. Představeny jsou různé metody, které se v tomto odvětví mohou využít a v krátkosti jsou zmíněny mezinárodní organizace a etika v competitive intelligence. Druhá část práce se zaměřuje na charakterizaci otevřených zdrojů. Opět jsou zde definovány a vymezeny základní pojmy, po čemž následuje charakterizace souvisejících témat jako je open-source intelligence a otevřená data. Ve třetí části je popsáno využití otevřených zdrojů v činnosti competitive intelligence a zároveň jsou představeny problémy, které se s tímto typem zdroje mohou pojit. Čtvrtá, praktická část, se zaměřuje na popis a porovnání vybraných informačních zdrojů a některých jejich funkcí na základě zvolených kritérií. Hlavním cílem této části bylo posoudit, do jaké míry jsou dané zdroje vhodné pro práci v competitive intelligence.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is focused on the topic of open information sources and their role in Competitive intelligence (CI). It consists of four main parts. The first part begins with defining the term Competitive intelligence itself and a brief look into the historic development of this practice. Then follows the description of different ways that CI activities can divided into, along with an overview of various methods of competition analysis than can be used. Afterwards, other related topics are discussed, such as the Intelligence cycle, international organizations, and ethics in Competitive intelligence. The second part of this thesis consists of definitions of open information sources and other related topics, including Open-source intelligence and open data. The third part is focused on the usage of open source data and information in Competitive Intelligence and problems that emanate from their nature. In the practical fourth part the thesis is devoted to the description and comparison of selected information sources and their functions. The main goal of this part is to evaluate to what degree are these sources are viable and relevant for use in Competitive Intelligence activities.
