Gender stereotypes and their influence on the choice of educational path at university

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce pojednává o problematice genderu, jeho stereotypizaci v českém školním prostředí a jeho vlivu na vzdělávací dráhu studentů a studentek. Cílem práce je zjistit, jakou roli hrají genderové stereotypy o intelektuálních schopnostech, profesních předpokladech a společenských rolích mužů a žen při výběru dalšího vzdělání na vysoké škole. Teoretická část se věnuje základním pojmům týkajícím se genderu a genderových stereotypů s důrazem na oblast vzdělávání. Empirická část v podobě dotazníkového šetření pak zkoumá, jaké mají studenti a studentky středních škol v České republice představy o svém genderu a o jeho stereotypizaci ve školním prostředí. Hlavním cílem výzkumu je zjistit, jakou mají tyto představy podobu a do jaké míry ovlivňují volbu budoucí studijní dráhy středoškoláků a středoškolaček. Cílová populace výzkumného vzorku zahrnuje studující všeobecných gymnázií v ČR.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis deals with the issue of gender, its stereotyping in the Czech school environment and its influence on the educational path of students. The aim of the thesis is to find out what role do gender stereotypes about intellectual ability, professional qualifications and social roles of men and women play in the choice of further education at university. The theoretical part deals with basic concepts related to gender and gender stereotypes, with an emphasis on the field of education. The empirical part, in the form of a questionnaire survey, then examines ideas of high school students in the Czech Republic about their gender and its stereotyping in the school environment. The main goal of the research is to find out what form these ideas take and to what extent they influence the choice of future educational path of high school students. The target population of the research sample includes grammar school students in Czech Republic.
