The return of the wolf to the landscape of the Czech Republic: development of public policy and attitudes of the main stakeholders

Abstract:

Diplomová práce pojednává o návratu velkých šelem do krajiny České republiky se zaměřením na vlka obecného. S tímto návratem je spojena nejen veřejná politika a vlčí management, ale také názorový vývoj hlavních stakeholderů. Nejprve je poskytnut základní náhled na mezinárodní, evropskou i tuzemskou veřejnou politiku, který s vlkem souvisí a následně je pomocí polostrukturovaných rozhovorů proveden kvalitativní průzkum mezi hlavními stakeholdery zabývajícími se tímto tématem. Kvantitativní analýza obsahu vybraných odborných časopisů pak mapuje frekvenci diskuse o tomto tématu. Celý výzkum je graficky znázorněn v časové ose, která dokumentuje vývoj a změny ve vlčí politice. V práci bylo dosaženo vytyčených cílů, byl zjištěn a popsán vývoj veřejné politiky ve vztahu k vlkům a zjištěny základní postoje klíčových aktérů k jejich návratu a vlčí politice.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis discusses the return of large carnivores to the landscape of the Czech Republic, with a focus on the gray wolf. Public policy and opinion development of the main stakeholders are closely connected with this return, which is the main focus of the work. Using semi-structured interviews, a qualitative survey was conducted among the main stakeholders in various areas of activity. The quantitative research is then represented by a content analysis of selected periodical journals to map the frequency of discussions on this topic. The entire research is graphically represented on a timeline, documenting the development and changes in wolf policy. It was achieved goals which were set, the thesis identifyied and described the development of public policy concerning wolves and determined the basic attitudes of key actors towards their return and wolf policy.
