Fear of intimacy and attachment in relation to couple satisfaction

Abstract:

Předkládaná bakalářská práce se zabývá vztahy mezi strachem z intimity, attachmentem a partnerskou spokojeností. Cílem práce je zmapovat vztahy mezi strachem z intimity, typy primární citové vazby a vnímanou spokojeností s romantickým vztahem. Výzkumný soubor tvoří 207 respondentů ve věku 20¬35 let (M = 25,5; SD = 4,79), kteří jsou alespoň v 1 rok trvajícím partnerském vztahu. Sběr dat probíhal formou online dotazníkového šetření. Využity byly české překlady škál FIS, ECR a CSI. Byl nalezen negativní vztah mezi strachem z intimity a vnímanou partnerskou spokojeností. Byly také nalezeny pozitivní vztahy mezi vztahovou vyhýbavostí a strachem z intimity i vztahovou úzkostností a strachem z intimity. Byl potvrzen rozdíl v míře strachu z intimity mezi vyhýbavým a jistým attachmentem. Dále byly objeveny záporné vztahy mezi vztahovou vyhýbavostí a vnímanou partnerskou spokojeností i mezi vztahovou úzkostností a vnímanou partnerskou spokojeností. V míře vnímané partnerské spokojenosti byl zjištěn rozdíl mezi jistým a úzkostným attachmentem. Dále byly nalezeny rozdíly mezi styly attachmentu v attachmentové úzkostnosti i vyhýbavosti. Ukázal se také rozdíl v míře strachu z intimity podle délky trvání partnerského vztahu a rozdíl ve vnímané partnerské spokojenosti podle typu partnerského vztahu. Byly zjištěny i rozdíly v míře strachu z intimity a v míře vnímané partnerské spokojenosti mezi respondenty s různým dosaženým vzděláním. Limity práce a možnosti jejího dalšího využitá jsou uvedeny v diskuzi.

Abstract:

Presented bachelor thesis explores the relationship between fear of intimacy, attachment and relationship satisfaction. The aim of the study is to verify whether there is a relationship between fear of intimacy and both avoidant and anxious attachment, as well as between fear of intimacy and lower perceived relationship satisfaction. Additionally, the study examines the relationship between insecure attachment styles and perceived relationship satisfaction. The research sample consists of 207 participants aged 20¬35 years (M = 25.5; SD = 4.79) who are in a romantic relationship lasting at least 1 year. Data collection was conducted through an online questionnaire survey. Czech translations of the FIS, ECR, and CSI scales were used for analysis. A negative relationship between fear of intimacy and perceived relationship satisfaction was found. Positive relationships were also found between avoidant attachment style and fear of intimacy, as well as between anxious attachment style and fear of intimacy. A difference in the level of fear of intimacy between avoidant and secure attachment styles was confirmed. Furthermore, negative relationships were found between avoidant attachment style and perceived relationship satisfaction, as well as between anxious attachment style and perceived relationship satisfaction. A difference in the level of perceived relationship satisfaction between secure and anxious attachment styles was identified. Differences between attachment styles in attachment anxiety and avoidance were also found. Discrepancies in the level of fear of intimacy depending on the duration of the relationship and differences in perceived relationship satisfaction according to the type pf relationship were identified. Differences in the level of fear of intimacy and perceived relationship satisfaction among respondents with different levels of education were also found. The limitations of the study and possibilities for further utilization are discussed.
