Causes of gender inequality in the Moroccan education system and possible solutions

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na problematiku genderových nerovností ve vzdělávacím systému Maroka. Cílem této bakalářské práce je identifikovat příčiny a navrhnout řešení genderových nerovností vzdělávacího systému v Maroku se zaměřením na předškolní, primární a sekundární vzdělávání. První kapitola stanovuje obecné příčiny a řešení genderových nerovností ve vzdělávání rozvojových zemí a je vypracována na základě rešerše literatury. V druhé kapitole jsou identifikovány rozdíly mezi dívkami a chlapci ve vzdělávacím systému Maroka. Na základě dat byla rozpoznána nižší míra zapsaných dívek na úrovni předškolního a nižšího sekundárního vzdělávání a na úrovni primárního vzdělávání vyšší míra předčasného ukončování školní docházky dívkami. Následně byly obecné příčiny a řešení genderových nerovností ve vzdělávání rozvojových zemí přeneseny na Maroko. Pro Maroko byly identifikovaný následující příčiny: chudoba, rodinný model, bezpečí a vzdálenost od školy, náboženství, násilí, dětské sňatky a nechtěná těhotenství a dětská práce. Poté byla uplatněna obecná řešení z první části a navržena řešení genderových nerovností vzdělávacího systému v Maroku. Tato řešení byla rozdělena do těchto oblastí: učitelé a ženské vzory, právní reformy, bezpečnost a přívětivé prostředí, genderové stereotypy, finanční podpora, školy ve venkovských oblastech, internátní školy a školy pouze pro dívky, dopravní infrastruktura a sexuální výchova.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of gender inequality in the Moroccan education system. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to identify the causes and to propose solutions to gender inequality in the education system in Morocco, focusing on pre-school, primary and secondary education. The first chapter describes the general causes and solutions to gender inequalities in education in developing countries and is based on literature research. The second chapter identifies the differences between girls and boys in the Moroccan education system. Based on the data, lower enrolment rates for girls at the pre-primary and lower secondary levels and higher dropout rates for girls at the primary level have been identified. Subsequently, the general causes and solutions to gender inequalities in education in developing countries are transferred to Morocco. The following causes were identified for Morocco: poverty, family model, safety and distance from school, religion, violence, child marriage and unwanted pregnancies, and child labour. Then, the general solutions from the first part were applied and solutions to gender inequality of the education system in Morocco were proposed. These solutions were categorized into the following areas: teachers and female role models, legal reforms, safety and welcoming environments, gender stereotypes, financial support, schools in rural areas, boarding and girls-only schools, transport infrastructure, and sex education.
