The Life Course of Muslim Women in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá životem muslimských žen v České republice. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a empirickou část. První část teoretické práce pojednává o tématu islámu v České republice. Nabízí historický exkurz vývoje muslimské komunity na našem území. Druhá část je zaměřena na islám jako jedno z největších náboženství. Předkládám teoretické vymezení islámu a jeho základní definici. Následně uvádím hlavní zásady islámské víry. Teoretickou část uzavírám třetí kapitolou pojednávající o postavení ženy v islámském světě. Věnuji se především kulturním a náboženským odlišnostem, které definují postavení muslimské ženy. Empirická část práce obsahuje metodologický postup, kvalitativní analýzu a interpretaci čtyř životních drah muslimských žen žijících v České republice. Danou interpretaci jsem zpracovala prostřednictvím narativní analýzy. Cílem práce je porozumět životnímu příběhu muslimských žen v České republice.

Abstract:

This Diploma thesis deals with the life of Muslim women in the Czech Republic. It is divided into the theoretical and the empirical part. The first part of the theoretical study examines Islam in the Czech Republic. It provides a historical guide to the development of the Muslim community in our territory. The second part focuses on Islam as one of the largest religions. It presents a theoretical definition of Islam and its basic characterization. Subsequently, the thesis introduces the guiding principles of the Islamic faith. The theoretical part concludes with the third chapter dealing with the status of women in the Islamic world. It primarily examines cultural and religious differences defining the status of Muslim women. The empirical part includes methodology, qualitative analysis and the interpretation of four life courses of Muslim women living in the Czech Republic. The interpretation was carried out by means of narrative analysis. The aim of the thesis is to understand the life story of Muslim women in the Czech Republic.
