Typology of approval signs in verbal interactions in French: use of native and non-native speakers in role-playing games.

Abstract:

The master’s thesis is based on the bachelor’s thesis where the author observed the ways of French native speakers expressing their agreement from the different points of view such as morphology, semantics, syntactic and also pragmatics. For a deeper exploration of this topic the author relies on aspects of sociology and ethnography of communication from which she applies a SPEAKING model by Dell Hymes. Due to this model she thoroughly analyses eight communication situations held in French language between French native speakers and secondly between the Czech and Slovak students of French language. In the centre of examination are the approval signs and their regularities in the conversations which the author analyses and compares the results of native speakers and students. The master’s thesis is supplemented by didactic dimension where the topic is presented as a language workshop. The author uses interactive methods, especially the role playing game where students integrate a large scale of communication skills including body language. The aim of this thesis is to validate the importance of approval signs in conversation as the elementary components of the conversation politeness, and secondly show one of the possible ways how communication abilities and strategies could be practiced in French language class.

Abstract:

Magisterská diplomová práce vychází ze základů práce bakalářské, ve které autorka pozorovala, jakými způsoby vyjadřují rodilí mluvčí ve francouzštině svůj souhlas, a to jak z hlediska morfologického, sémantického, syntaktického, tak optikou pragmatické lingvistiky. Pro hlubší prozkoumání této problematiky se v současné práci opírá rovněž o aspekty sociologie a etnografie komunikace, přičemž v praktické části aplikuje model lingvistického antropologa Dell Hymese SPEAKING. Díky němu důkladně rozebírá osm komunikačních situací, které se uskutečnily ve francouzském jazyce nejprve ve skupině rodilých mluvčích a poté mezi studenty francouzštiny české a slovenské národnosti. V centru zkoumání pak stojí právě znaky souhlasu, jejichž zákonitosti v konverzacích autorka analyzuje a porovnává výsledky rodilých mluvčích se studenty. Magisterská práce je obohacena o didaktickou část, ve které je zkoumané téma uchopeno formou jazykového ateliéru. V něm autorka využívá metody interaktivního vyučování, konkrétně rolovou hru, při které studenti zapojují širokou škálu komunikačních dovedností včetně pohybového vyjádření. Cílem práce je jednak potvrdit důležitost znaků souhlasu při vedení konverzace,jakožto elementárních složek tzv. konverzační zdvořilosti, a dále předkládá jednu z možností, jak lze v hodinách francouzštiny pracovat na rozvíjení komunikačních dovedností a strategií.
