A Comparison of the Economic Performance of EU-28 Member States – Selected Aspects

Abstract:

Tato práce se zaměřuje na porovnání ekonomických výkonností členských zemí Evropské unie a následně jejich ekonomický vývoj. Ekonomika zemí je sledována pomocí makroekonomického agregátu HDP. V teoretické části je zkoumána charakteristika ukazatele HDP, metody jeho výpočtu, problémy s ním spojené a popis použití ukazatele HDP pro mezinárodní komparaci. Komparace ekonomiky zemí je provedena za pomocí analýzy odvozeného ukazatele HDP přepočteného na obyvatele jednotlivých členských zemí. Vývoj tohoto ukazatele je sledován v průběhu 10 let, od roku 2008 do roku 2018. S pomocí výsledných údajů jsou pak jednotlivé země hodnocené podle vývoje ekonomiky.Výsledkem práce je sestavené pořadí podle hodnoty HDP na obyvatele v eurech a PPS a meziročního růstu HDP na obyvatele v eurech a PPS za sledované období. Mezi nejvíce ekonomicky výkonnými státy se umístilo Irsko, Malta a Dánsko, nejméně výkonné je Řecko. Česká republika se pohybuje na 13. místě.

Abstract:

This thesis work towards a comparison of the economic performance of the member countries of the European Union and subsequently on their economic development. The economies of the countries are monitored utilizing the macroeconomic GDP aggregate. The theoretical part elaborates the GDP indicator, the methods of its calculation, the problems associated with it and a description of the use of the GDP indicator for the international comparison. The comparison of the countries’ economies is performed with the aid an analysis of a derived GDP indicator per capita of individual member countries. The development of this indicator is monitored over 10 years, from 2008 to 2018. Based on the resulting data, individual countries are then evaluated according to the development of their economies.The result of this work is a compiled ranking according to the value of GDP per capita in euro and PPS and the interannual growth of GDP per capita in euro and PPS for the period under review. Ireland, Malta and Denmark are placed among the most economically efficient countries, Greece is the least efficient. The Czech Republic takes 13th place.
