Theme parks and their importance for tourism development

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou tematických parků v kontextu místní identity v destinaci Plzeňsko. Autorka nejdříve vymezuje samotný pojem tematický park, který má původ v anglickém theme park, následně pak definuje destinace cestovního ruchu jak obecně, tak konkrétně pro potřeby této práce. Následně se text věnuje dalším souvisejícím pojmům, včetně otázky identity a její role při rozvoji destinace. Analytická část práce se zabývá historií tematických parků a dále přibližuje současnou situaci na trhu tohoto odvětví na světové, evropské, národní i lokální úrovni. V rámci vlastního výzkumu se autorka práce zabývá faktorem úspěchu tematických parků, kdy na základě vlastní případové studie evropského lídra na tomto trhu definuje osm faktorů úspěchu, jejichž platnost v podmínkách konkrétní destinace následně ověřuje prostřednictvím řízených rozhovorů s vybranými stakeholdery. Hlavním výstupem této diplomové práce je návrh konceptu kulturně-historického tematického parku v destinaci Plzeňsko, který reflektuje celý region Západních Čech a akcentuje faktor místní identity.

Abstract:

This master’s dissertation deals with issues of theme parks in the context of local identity in the Pilsen region. Firstly, the author defines the Czech version of the world theme park, which originates in English term theme park, then defines a destination, both in general way and specifically for the purposes of this thesis. Subsequently, the text deals with other related topics, including the issue of identity and its role in the development of destination. The analytical part deals with the history of theme park industry and draws attention to the current market situation of this sector at global, European, national and local level. Within own research, the author deals with the success factors of theme parks. On basis of author‘s own case study about the leader of the European market, eight success factors are defined and their validity is subsequently verified in specific destination through controlled interviews with selected stakeholders. The main output of this master’s dissertation is a draft concept of cultural-historical theme park in the Pilsen region, which reflects the whole region of West Bohemia and accentuates the factor of local identity.
