Statistical Analysis of Ice-Hockey Competitions Results

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je analyzovat shromážděná data hokejových soutěží a využít je k odhadu výsledků utkání. K tomuto účelu bude použito dvou různých metod (rankingu a logistické regrese) a poté bude jejich úspěšnost srovnána se sázkovou kanceláří. Modely budou hodnoceny dle více kritérií a následně bude zjišťováno, v jakých případech je která metoda úspěšnější a která méně. Diskutovány budou rovněž kvality týmů, které při odhadování výsledků hrajou hlavní roli. Toto bude provedeno simulací na fiktivních vzorových příkladech, pro které pomocí navržené metody odhadneme výsledek.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyze collected data from ice-hockey competitions and use it to predict results. For this purpose two different methods (ranking and logistic regression) will be used and then the prediction rate of these methods will be compared with the betting office. These models will be rated by more criterions and it will be determined in which cases which method is more successful. We will also discuss which team qualities are the most important in result prediction. For this purpose several dummy examples will be made from which we will predict the results.
