Double Identity in Testament français by Andreï Makine.

Abstract:

Master’s thesis deals with problems of double identity in the novel Le Testament français by Andreï Makine. The effort to reach an identity is a natural aim of a human being, especially during the period of adolescence. Problems of double identity appear in the plot because the main character, Aliocha was born in Russia, but he has also French roots. The theoretical part of the thesis presents the evolution of identity in connection to psychological theories as well as the difference between personal and social identities. The practical part contains analysis of development of Aliocha´s identity, into which two cultures and two languages enter together with history of France and Russia, which the main character processes internally during the maturing and between which he constantly oscillates. The critical period demonstrates at the age of fifteen, when Aliocha reaches the peak of formation of his own identity. The last part of the thesis follows the further development of his identity and deals with the impacts which influence it.

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá problematikou dvojí identity v románu Andreï Makina Le Testament français. Snaha o dosažení identity je přirozeným směřováním člověka, zejména v průběhu dospívání. Problematika dvojí identity se zde objevuje, protože hlavní postava románu, Aliocha, se narodil v Rusku, ale má i francouzské kořeny. Teoretická část práce pojednává o vývoji identity v návaznosti na psychologické teorie, řeší se zde také rozdíl mezi identitou osobní a sociální. Praktická část obsahuje analýzu vývoje Aliochovy identity, do kterého vstupují dvě kultury a dva jazyky, stejně jako historie Francie a Ruska, které hlavní hrdina v sobě zpracovává v průběhu dospívání a mezi kterými neustále osciluje. Kritické období přichází v patnácti letech, kdy Aliocha dospívá k utvoření identity, poslední část práce se pak zabývá dalším vývojem jeho identity a vlivy, které na ni působí.
