Phenomenon of dying and death from perspective of workers in palliative care

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je primárně zaměřená na vnímání umírání a smrti pohledem pracovníků v paliativní péči. Cílem práce bylo zjistit, jaké strategie pracovníci volí ke zvládání obtíží a nároků spojené s jejich prací a jak se vyrovnávají s umíráním klientů v zařízeních. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a empirickou část. V rámci teoretické části se věnuji definici umírání a smrti z různých hledisek, provádím komparaci umírání v domácím prostředí s umíráním v nemocničním prostředí a popisuji náhled na umírání a smrt pohledem historickým a současným. Teoretická část dále obsahuje vymezení paliativní péče, charakteristiku hospicových zařízení a téma eutanazie. Empirická část je zaměřena na interpretaci výsledků získaných z polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s respondentkami pracujícími v hospicových zařízeních a přináší odpověď na mnou stanovené výzkumné otázky.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is mainly focused on the perception of dying and death from the point of view of palliative care workers. The main purpose of my bachelor thesis is to find an answer to the question about the strategies which are mostly chosen by employees to fight with some difficulties of their profession and also to describe how to deal with the dying of their own clients in palliative care facilities. The bachelor thesis is divided into theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part describes essential definitions as definition of dying and death. I put into comparison dying at home with dying in hospital. I also wrote about some historical facts related to my work with the extension about the comparison of actual and historical view on the dying and death. The theoretical part also contains a chapter describing a palliative care system, a chapter relating to the problematics of hospices and the topic of euthanasia. The empirical part is focused on the interpretation of the semi-structured interviews and their results. This semi-structured interviews were made by me with the respondents who are working directly with a dying people (clients) inside the hospices. My empirical part helped me to find the answer to research questions which were set by myself.
