Abstract:

Tato předkládaná práce popisuje vytvoření dvojjazyčného anglicko-českého glosáře odborných termínů z oblasti bezpečnosti silničního provozu. Termíny z dané oblasti pocházejí z různých dokumentů, slovníků a glosářů. Jsou vybrány tak, aby obsáhly široký rozměr oblasti bezpečnosti silničního provozu. Anglické i české termíny v glosáři jsou uváděny s definicemi. První část práce se zabývá termíny a jejich odlišností od slov. V prvních kapitolách se na tento rozdíl nahlíží z různých úhlů; pomocí LSP a LGP, standardizací termínů nebo rozdělením termínů podle typu. Práce následně přináší přehled slovníků a glosářů, jež se týkají dopravní terminologie. Jsou uvedeny jak tradiční slovníky, tak i slovníky a glosáře internetové. Další část práce vymezuje oblast bezpečnosti silniční dopravy, uvádí statistiky dopravních nehod, schválené dokumenty přispívající ke zlepšení situace bezpečnosti v silničním provozu a organizace zabývající se dopravním výzkumem. Poslední část popisuje proces vytváření glosáře samotného, výběr termínů a výběr vhodné formy glosáře. Práce odhalila různé dopravní systémy z různých zemích. Některé termíny týkající se bezpečnosti silničního provozu se dokonce definují jiným způsobem v různých zemích a některé zatím nejsou definovány vůbec. Průzkum v oblasti dostupných slovních vztahujících se k oblasti dopravy zjistil, že prakticky neexistují slovníky nebo glosáře týkající se přímo bezpečnosti silniční dopravy. Stávající slovníky, které se věnují dopravě obecně, se bezpečnosti silniční dopravy věnují pouze okrajově. Přestože neexistuje žádná obecně uznávaná definice bezpečnosti silniční dopravy, materiálů pro výběr termínů v anglickém i českém jazyce je dostatek. Tento glosář si klade za cíl posloužit překladatelům při překladech textů nejen z oblasti bezpečnosti silničního provozu, ale i z oblasti dopravy celkově.

Abstract:

The primary aim of this thesis is the compilation of a bilingual English-Czech glossary of road-traffic-safety terms. The terms are extracted from various documents, dictionaries, and glossaries. They are selected in order to provide a cross-section of the domain of road traffic safety. Both the English terms as well as the Czech terms are provided with definitions. The first part of the thesis aims to shed light on terms and their difference from words. This part also discusses terms from the perspective of the contrast between LSP and LGP, standardization of terms, and the communicative setting. Subsequently, this part presents research of dictionaries and glossaries related to transport terminology. Traditional as well as Internet dictionaries and glossaries are reviewed. The next part of the thesis attempts to delineate the domain of road traffic safety, mentions accident statistics, documents adopted in order to improve road safety, and organizations active in transport research. The final part of the thesis describes the process of the glossary compilation, the selection of sources, and selection of the form of the glossary. The research revealed different transport systems in individual countries. In addition, some road traffic safety terms are even defined differently in various countries, while in some they are not defined at all. The research of dictionaries discovered that there is a lack of glossaries or dictionaries dealing with the issue of road traffic safety. The existing dictionaries deal with road traffic safety only marginally within the greater extent of all disciplines related to transport. Although there is no generally accepted definition of the domain of road traffic safety, there is an abundance of materials for selecting terms and definitions both in English and Czech. The glossary aims to become a help for translators of texts not only in the specific domain of road traffic safety, but also in the field of transport as a whole.
