School cheating from high-school students perspective - a case study

Abstract:

Práce se zaměřuje na problematiku školního podvádění z pohledu studentů střední školy. Školní podvádění je v práci představeno v kontextu několika teoretických koncepcí, přičemž hlavní teoretickou oporou práce je integrovaný model školního podvádění autorů E. M. Andermana a T. A. Murdockové, který používá perspektivu teorie výkonové motivace. Studenti se podle něj rozhodují, zda budou či nebudou podvádět, na základě působení individuálních a kontextových faktorů, které jsou v práci představeny. Cílem výzkumu bylo identifikovat individuální a kontextové faktory, které čeští studenti konkrétní střední školy reflektují jako související se školním podváděním. Pozornost byla věnována také tomu, jak studenti školní podvádění vnímají a prožívají. S ohledem na neexistenci českého standardizovaného diagnostického nástroje byl pro výzkum zvolen kvalitativní přístup s designem případové studie. Metodou sběru dat byl polostrukturovaný rozhovor s osmi studenty střední školy. Na základě výsledků výzkumu můžeme konstatovat, že kontextové faktory mají u českých studentů větší váhu než ty individuální, přičemž hlavní roli hraje vnímaná příležitost podvádět. Na tvorbě příležitosti se podílí charakteristiky konkrétního učitele a předmětu. Z individuálních faktorů studenti reflektovali touhu po dobré známce a současně nedostatek času k učení. Důležité je zjištění, že podvádění studenti považují za normu chování ve třídě a nedodržování této normy vedlo v konkrétní třídě až k vyloučení nekonformních jedinců z kolektivu. V diskuzi jsou rozebrána specifika školního podvádění českých studentů v konfrontaci se zahraničními výzkumy. Součástí práce je i navržení změn, které by podle samotných studentů mohly vést ke snížení jejich potřeby podvádět, a podněty budoucím výzkumům v této oblasti.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on academic cheating from high-school students perspective. School cheating is presented in the context of several theoretical concepts. The main theoretical framework is an integrated model of academic cheating by E.M. Anderman and T.A. Murdock that uses the perspective of achievement motivation. According to this model, the decision whether or not to cheat is based on effects of individual and contextual factors that are introduced in the theoretical part. The aim of this work was to identify individual and contextual factors which Czech high-school students reflect in connection to academic cheating. I was also interested in how students perceive and experience school cheating. The empiric part of the work was conceived as a qualitative research with a design of a case study because of the absence of Czech standardized diagnostic instrument. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with eight high-school students. Following the results of the research we can say that contextual factors are for Czech students more important than individual. The major role plays the percieved opportunity to cheat which is influenced by characteristics of the teacher and the subject. Between individual factors mentioned by students was included performance goal orientation and lack of time to learn. The important finding is that cheating is considered as a standard of behavior in the classroom. Non-normative behavior resulted to the exclusion of non-conformist individuals from the concrete classroom collective. The discussion deals with specifics of Czech academic cheating in confrontation with a foreign research. The work also includes possible changes, which could lead students to reduce their need to cheat, and suggestions for the future research.
