Financing and restoration of the Jewish Quarter in Trebic

Abstract:

Tématem diplomové práce je Financování a obnova třebíčské židovské čtvrti. Židovská čtvrť v Třebíči je od roku 2003 zapsána na světovém seznamu kulturních a přírodních památek UNESCO, ale ještě před rokem 89 mělo být bývalé židovské ghetto společně s židovským hřbitovem asanováno. Cílem práce je porovnat stav třebíčské židovské čtvrti před a po roce 89 a sestavit její unikátní hodnoty, na základě kterých, byla zapsána na světový seznam UNESCO jako první židovská památka mimo území Izraele, a porovnat tyto hodnoty s jinými čtvrtěmi v Evropě. Práce se zaměřuje na postupnou revitalizaci celého území, ale i obnovu jednotlivých památek včetně jejího financování od 90. let 20. století až po současnost, dále na kritéria a proces zápisu na seznam UNESCO, aktuálního stavu území bývalé židovské čtvrti a aktivit Městského kulturního střediska v okolí židovských památek. Pozornost je také zaměřena na srovnání třebíčské židovské čtvrti s jinými významnými čtvrtěmi, jako je bývalá židovská čtvrť Josefov v Praze, mikulovská židovská čtvrť, čtvrť Kazimierz v Polsku nebo ukrajinském Lvově. Srovnávací analýza je vypracována na základě několika zahraničních studií, které potvrzují jedinečnost třebíčské židovské čtvrti a její unikátní historické a kulturní hodnoty, které nejsou patrné u jiných židovských čtvrtí v celé Evropě.

Abstract:

The topic of the M. A. thesis is Financing and restoration of the Jewish Quarter in Trebic. The Jewish Quarter in Trebic has been registrated on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2003, but before the year 89 should be the former Jewish ghetto together with the Jewish cemetery rehabilitated. The aim of this thesis is to compare the state of the Jewish Quarter in Trebic before and after the year 89 and compile its unique values, on the basis of which it was inscribed on the UNESCO world list as the first Jewish monument outside Israel, and compare these values with other districts in Europe. This thesis focuses on the gradual revitalization of the whole area, but also the restoration of individual historical monuments, including financing from the 90s of the 20th century to the present, furthermore the criteria and the process of the registration on the UNESCO list, the current state of the former Jewish quarter and the activities of the City Cultural Center in the vicinity of Je-wish monuments. Attention is also focused on the comparison of the Jewish Quarter in Trebic with other important districts, such as the former Jewish Quarter Josefov in Prague, the Jewish Quarter in Mikulov, the Kazimierz district in Poland or Lviv in Ukraine. The comparative analysis is based on several foreign studies that confirm the uniqueness of the Trebic Jewish Quarter and its unique historical and cultural values, which are not evident in other Jewish quarters throughout Europe.
