Clients' imagined between-session conversations with their therapists

Abstract:

Tato studie se zabývá retrospektivními a imaginárními dialogy s terapeutem v představách klientů individuální psychoterapie, jež se odehrávají mimo přímý terapeutický kontakt v rámci zážitků mezi jednotlivými sezeními, kdy klienti přemýšlejí o terapeutických rozhovorech a internalizují vnímání osobnosti terapeuta a prožitky z terapie. Pozornost je věnována subjektivně důležitým momentům ve vzájemné interakci, na které klienti zpětně vzpomínají a které rozvíjejí ve své představivosti za pří-tomnosti mentální reprezentace terapeuta v roli dialogického partnera. Kvalitativní výzkum je zamě-řen na zjištění formulací a emočně významných momentů z terapeutické interakce, které klienti dialo-gicky rozvíjeli ve své fantazii, a na průběh imaginárních konverzací. Cílem práce je popsat, jak představy rozhovorů s terapeutem v klientově mysli probíhají, z jakých potřeb vyvstávají, jakých ob-sahů se dotýkají, co se přitom s klienty děje na emoční úrovni a k čemu klientovi slouží. Částí výzku-mu je snaha zmapovat důsledky těchto fantazií jak na klientovu osobnost, tak v širším kontextu klien-tova života obecně a všímat si dopadů na terapeutický vztah a proces terapie.

Abstract:

This study deals with retrospective and imaginary therapeutic dialogues in clients’ images which take place outside direct therapeutic contact within the frame of inter-session experiences when clients think about the therapeutic dialogues and internalize their perception of the therapist’s personality and their therapeutic experience. The attention is given to the subjectively important moments of the mutual interaction which clients recall retrospectively and develop in their imagination with presence of the mental representation of the therapist as dialogic partner. The qualitative research is focused on finding some formulations and emotionally distinctive moments from the real therapeutic interaction, which were dialogically developed by clients’ in their fantasy, and on the course of imagined conver-sations. The aim of the work is to describe how the images of therapeutic dialogue proceed in clients’ mind, what needs they stem from, what contents they relate to, what the might serve and what emo-tions clients feel when imaging. There is also an effort to track consequences of those fantasies regard-ing the influence on clients’ personality, day-to-day life and to notice the impact of this phenomenon on the therapeutic relationship and the process of therapy.
