Geographical aspects of polders in the Netherlands

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se věnuje fenoménu nizozemských poldrů, jakožto příkladu antropogenní krajiny. První část práce se zabývá vymezením pojmu kulturní krajina a stupňům její přeměny. Blíže je specifikována antropogenní krajina poldrů a výskyt poldrů ve světě. Další kapitoly se věnují vybraným fyzickogeografickým a socioekonomickým aspektům poldrů v Nizozemsku. Práce charakterizuje klíčové lokalizační předpoklady, hydrologické a pedogeografické charakteristiky, hlavní příčiny vzniku poldrů. Text se zabývá rozšiřováním, aktuálními trendy vývoje a budoucností těchto krajin. Součástí je typizace poldrů v Nizozemsku, jejich charakteristické rozdíly ve fungování, prostorových aspektech a aktuálním využití se zaměřením na jejich primární zemědělskou a residenční funkci. Je uvažováno nad jejich lokací v kontextu současného a historického rozmístění obyvatelstva státu. Těmito charakteristikami je poukázáno na jejich význam v kontextu Nizozemska. Součástí práce je transformace tématu do didaktické roviny. Je vytvořen pracovní list, který vystihuje základní aspekty nizozemských poldrů a tematiku zpřístupňuje pro výuku na středních školách.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on the phenomenon of Dutch polders as an example of anthropogenic landscape. The first part of the thesis deals with the definition of cultural landscape and the stages of its transformation. The anthropogenic landscape of polders and the location of polders in the world are specified in more detail. The next chapters deal with selected physical-geographical and socio-economic aspects of polders in the Netherlands. The thesis characterizes the main locational conditions, the hydrological and pedogeographical characteristics and the main causes of building these polders. The text discusses the expansion, current development trends and the future of these landscapes. It includes a typification of polders in the Netherlands, their characteristic differences in functioning, spatial aspects and current use, with a focus on their primary agricultural and residential function. Their location in the context of the current and historical distribution of the country's population is considered. These characteristics are used to highlight their importance in the context of the Netherlands. The thesis includes a transformation of the topic into a didactic level. A worksheet is created that describes the basic aspects of Dutch polders and makes the topic accessible for teaching in secondary schools.
