Gender stereotypes in the selected literature

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce s názvem "Genderové stereotypy ve vybrané literatuře" se věnuje problematice generových stereotypů v současné fantasy literatuře, jejichž autorkami jsou ženy. Teoretická část je věnována nejprve stručné definici literární teorie obecně, pak základním termínům genderu, genderovým stereotypům, maskulinitě a femininitě, následně rozdílům mezi pohlavími i teoriím jejich vzniku. V praktické části následuje analýza vybraných děl, jejichž společným jmenovatelem nejsou jen, dnes velmi populární, příběhy z upírského světa a to, že je napsaly současné autorky fantasy literatury převážně opět pro ženy-čtenářky, ale i to, že na základě popularity příběhů autorky tyto rozšiřují o nové díly. První vybranou autorkou je Stephanie Mayer a analýza se týká její velmi populární čtyřdílné ságy s názvem Stmívání. Druhou vybranou autorkou je Jessica Bird, píšící fantasy pod pseudonymem J. R. Ward a analýza bude provedena u desetidílné série s názvem Bratrstvo černé dýky. Cílem práce je podat náhled o tom, jaký obraz ženy či muže poskytuje soudobá "ženská" fantasy literatura svému čtenáři potažmo čtenářce a potvrdit či vyvrátit stanovené hypotézy.

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis titled "Gender stereotypes in the selected literature " deals with the issue of gender stereotypes in contemporary fantasy literature whose authors are women. The theoretical part is devoted to the first concise definition of literary theory in general, the principal terms of gender, gender stereotypes, masculinity and femininity, then the differences between the sexes and theories of their origin . The practical part is followed by an analysis of selected works whose common denominator is not only today very popular tales of the vampire world and that it is written by the contemporary authors of fantasy literature, again mostly for women readers, but also that based on the popularity of stories the authors extend these stories to new parts. The first choice is the author of Stephanie Mayer and analysis relates to the very popular four-part saga called Twilight. The second choice is the author of Jessica Bird, fantasy writing under the pseudonym of J.R. Ward and analysis will be performed in the Decalogue series called the Black Dagger Brotherhood. The aim of the bachelor thesis is to provide a preview of what the image of women and men provides contemporary "female" fantasy literature to its readers and confirm or refute the hypothesis.
