English Loan Words and Their Adaptation in the Russian Language. (Based upon Russian Middle-Class-Oriented Press.)

Abstract:

The dissertation thesis is an attempt of research in the field of new English loan words in the Russian language. It is specifically focused on the language of printed mass media (newspapers) read by the newly formed middle class representatives in Russia. The main goals of the work is to uncover the processes the loans words go through when passing from the very first stages of their appearance in the Russian language till the stage of becoming a fully adopted word by the the target language. It also reflects the inner development of borrowing processes and shows the level of the Russian language openess towards new English borrowings. It also displays the content of loan words joined as lexis used within one theme. The dissertation reveals the fact of economisation of the Russian language (instead of Englification or Americanisation). The dissertation work gives the evidence of changes in Russian understanding their national language status. In this thesis there is made an attempt to modificate two existing classifications of borrowings via their parallel application. Although we use only words of one period (the year 2009) as the lexical research material, such an application allows to spot the loan words in their development. Despite primary expectations the work finds out that the Russian tabloid Komsomolskaia Pravda is not the main agent of distribution English loans to the Russian language. The more productive distributor is a paper aimed at business people and enterpreneurs, Kommersant.

Abstract:

Disertační práce je pokusem o výzkum v oblasti nových anglických přejatých slov v ruském jazyce. Práce je zaměřena na jazyk ruských deníků, orientovaných na čtenáře z řad formující se ruské střední třídy. Hlavním cílem disertační práce je ozřejmit procesy, kterými prochází přejímané anglické slovo od jeho prvního výskytu v ruském jazyce až po stádium jeho zdomácnění v přejímajícím jazyce. Práce ukazuje jednotlivá stadia procesu zdomácnění anglických výrazů v ruštině a představuje míru otevřenosti ruského jazyka k anglickým výpůjčkám. Na konkrétním, tematicky členěném jazykovém materiálu znázorňuje výskyt nových anglicismů v ruských denících. Disertační práce odkrývá tendenci ruského jazyka k ekonomizaci (namísto často diskutované anglizace či amerikanizace). Práce vypovídá o změnách v chápání postavení jazyka a jeho funkcí rodilými mluvčími. V disertační práci je učiněn pokus modifikovat použití existujících kategorizací přejatých slov. Ačkoliv použitý lexikální materiál zahrnuje anglicismy jednoho období (pracovalo se s deníky za rok 2009), zmíněná modifikace umožnila nahlédnout na přejatá slova s ohledem na jejich pohyb v systému ruského jazyka. Navzdory původním předpokladům disertační práce ukazuje, že nejbohatším zdrojem přejímek z anglického jazyka není ruský bulvární deník Komsomolská pravda, ale list Komersant, určený převážně čtenářům z řad podnikatelské veřejnosti.
