Díky rozvoji medicíny můžeme v dnešní době řešit i dříve neřešitelné stavy. Hlavním cílem intenzivní medicíny je zachování zdraví a života pacienta. Pokud to ale již nelze naplnit, tak je nutné přejít k paliativní péči, která má za cíl vyloučit bolest a dyskomfort a saturovat pacientovi, jak fyzikální a psychické, tak duchovní a emocionální potřeby se zachováním lidské důstojnosti. Thanks to the advancement of medicine, we are now able to address conditions that were previously considered untreatable. The primary goal of intensive care medicine is to preserve the health and life of the patient.
