The costs of environmental protection in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je zjistit, jak se změnila velikost a struktura nákladů na ochranu životního prostředí v České republice, popsat vliv těchto nákladů na životní prostředí a ten demonstrovat na vybraných indikátorech. Nejprve je vymezen teoretický rámec analyzované problematiky. Následně byly popsány samotné náklady a, s očištěním o efekt úrovně a struktury, byl zkoumán vliv environmentálních investic na množství produkovaného znečištění. Byly vybrány tři indikátory produkovaného znečištění: emise CO2, množství vyprodukovaného odpadu a množství vypuštěné odpadní vody. Dle zjištěných výsledků nelze environmentální investice považovat obecně za faktor ovlivňující množství produkovaného znečištění. Nicméně byly identifikovány případy, ve kterých byl růst environmentálních investic korelován se snížením produkovaného znečištění. Výsledky dále ukazují, že vyšší hodnoty environmentálních investic byly spojeny s vyšším množstvím produkovaného znečištění.

Abstract:

The subject of this bachelor thesis is to analyse the size and structure of environmental protection costs in the Czech Republic, to assess the possible impacts of these costs on the environment and demonstrate it on selected indicators. Firstly, the thesis provides theoretical framework of the analysed problem. Secondly, the environmental costs themselves were described and, controlling for scale effect and structure effect, the impacts of environmental investments on produced pollution were examined. Three pollution indicators were selected: CO2 emissions, amount of waste produced and amount of discharged wastewater. Little evidence was found to show that environmental investments in general affect the level of pollution pro- duced. However, individual cases in which increase of environmental investments were correlated with decrease of pollution production were identified. Results also indicate that higher values of environmental investments were associated with a higher amount of pollution produced.
