Analysis of motivational factors to work with people with mental disability

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá některými motivačními faktory pro výběr a výkon profese pracovníků v sociálních službách se zaměřením na práci s osobami s mentálním postižením. Cílem bakalářské práce a výzkumného šetření je identifikovat motivační faktory v oblasti sociální práce vyplývající z biografií informantů. Data jsou získána na základě kvalitativního výzkumu metodou biografického rozhovoru. Šetření se zúčastnilo sedm informantů z řad pracovníků v sociálních službách se zaměřením na mentální handicap. Analýza a teoretické zpracování je založeno na metodě zakotvené teorie. Práce se zaměřuje na subjektivní vnímání motivace informantů v kontextu životního příběhu a věnuje se také tématům, která souvisejí s motivací a s cílovou skupinou. Z výzkumného šetření vyplývá, že podnětnými faktory jsou osobní zkušenosti a znalosti, altruismus, vnitřní potřeba pomáhat, lidský vztah jako součást profese, vliv sociálního prostředí a potřeby uznání. Důležitou roli hraje také prvotní kontakt se sociální službou a cílovou skupinou, pocit sebeuspokojení z výsledků práce a v malé míře také význam spirituality. Souvislost s motivací k profesi mají specifika práce s danou cílovou skupinou, ale také demotivační faktory při výkonu profese a bariéry pro práci. Bylo zjištěno, že bariérou může být nízká informovanost o sociální práci, negativní informovanost má demotivační efekt. Bariéry k sociální práci vznikají také v rámci životních etap, např. založení rodiny či zdravotní stav. V závěru se práce zabývá některými návrhy a doporučeními na základě získaných dat, která by mohla pomoci k efektivnímu získávání a motivování pracovníků v sociálních službách se zaměřením na mentální postižení.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on some motivational factors for the selection and performance of the profession of social services workers with a focus on working with people with mental disability. The aim of the thesis and research is to identify motivational factors in social work arising from the biographies of informants. These data are obtained on the basis of qualitative research by the method of biographical interview. The survey was attended by seven informants from the ranks of social workers focusing on mental disabilities The analysis and theoretical processing is based on the method of grounded theory. The thesis focuses on subjective perceptions of informant's motivation in the context of a life story and also addresses topics related to motivation and the target group. The research shows that personal experience and knowledge, altruism, the inner need to help, the human relationship as part of the profession, the influence of the social environment and the need for recognition are important motivation factors. The initial contact with the social service and the target group, a sense of self-satisfaction from the result of the work and, to a lesser extent, the importance of spirituality also play an important role in motivation. The specifics of working with the target group, but also demotivation factors in the performance of the profession and barriers to work are related to motivation for the profession. Low awareness of social work has been found to be a barrier, with negative awareness having a demotivation effect. Barriers to social work also arise as part of life stages, such as starting a family or a state of health. In conclusion, the work deals with some suggestions and recommendations based on the obtained data, which could help to effectively recruit and motivate workers in social services with a focus on mental disabilities.
