Munchen convention determine the cause of suicides in Czechoslovakia army in the year 1938

Abstract:

Mnichovská zrada jako příčina sebevražd v Československé branné moci v roce 1938 Téma této diplomové práce zkoumá životní osudy vojáků československé armády, kteří dobrovolně ukončili svůj život na protest proti politickému rozhodnutí bez boje odstoupit pohraniční území tzv. ?První republiky? nacistickému Německu - tj. přijetí Mnichovské dohody. Předmětem bádání bylo jedenáct osob, které svůj čin uskutečnily v období od 22. září 1938, kdy se šířila fáma o odstoupení Sudet, do 15. listopadu 1938, kdy byla postoupena Podkarpatská Ukrajina Maďarsku. Autor rekonstruuje na základě archivních pramenů a vzpomínek pamětníků celý jejich civilní život a službu v armádě, samotný akt sebevraždy i případný ohlas tohoto činu ve společnosti. Poskytuje informace o prostředí, ve kterém byli tito lidé vychováváni a o jejich rodinných příslušnících. Práce jen napsána v českém jazyce.

Abstract:

The theme of this master thesis investigates life circumstances of Czechoslovak army soldiers. These soldiers commit suicide as an act of protest against political resolution ? ratification of Munich?s convention. This resolution contains order to relinquish borderline areas of ?First Republic? to the Nazi Germany. There were eight persons chosen as a subject of research. These eight soldiers commit suicide in the demobilization period in the beginning of October 1938. Author reenacts their whole civil life and military service, also the act of suicide it self and possible response from society in context with this act by using accessible archival sources. Author provides us with information about soldier?s background, upbringing, and family members. Integral parts of the thesis are appendixes which contains various kinds of military documents. There you can see the how they are structured and what kind of information they contains. The thesis is written in czech language.
