Seniors attitudes towards death

Abstract:

Cílem mé bakalářské práce je zjistit, jaké postoje ke smrti zaujímají senioři, jak se tyto postoje liší mezi ženami a muži a zdali je ovlivňuje náboženství či stádium stáří. Bakalářská práce se skládá z teoretické a praktické části. Teoretická část se zaměřuje na vymezení základních pojmů: postoje, smrt, senior a stáří. Výzkumné šetření bylo realizováno na skupině 79 seniorů ve věkovém rozmezí od 60 do 85 let a proběhlo dotazníkovou metodou. Ke zjišťování postojů ke smrti byla použita testovací metoda "Death Attitude Profile - Revised" (Wong, Reker, & Gesser, 1994) neboli "Revidovaný profil postoje ke smrti." DAP-R měří pět dimenzí postojů ke smrti (Strach ze smrti, Vyhýbavý postoj ke smrti, Neutrální postoj ke smrti, Únikový postoj ke smrti a Vstřícný postoj ke smrti). Ke zkoumání jsme stanovili čtyři hypotézy, dvě byly přijaty a dvě hypotézy zamítnuty. Potvrdila se hypotéza, že respondenti s náboženským přesvědčením, mají méně negativní postoje ke smrti než nevěřící respondenti. Ovšem hypotéza, zda ženy mají vetší strach ze smrti než muži byla zamítnuta.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to find out what attitudes seniors have towards death, how the attitudes differ among women and men and whether these attitudes are influenced by religion or age. The bachelor thesis consists of a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part focuses on a defining the basic concepts of attitude, death, senior and old age. The research was conducted on a group of 79 seniors,whose age was ranging from 60 years to 85 years. This research was based on a questionnaire method. To find out attitudes to death, the "Death Attitude Profile - Revised" test method was used (Wong, Reker & Gesser, 1994). This method is also known as the Revised Profile of Attitudes to Death. DAP-R (1994) measures five dimensions of attitudes to death (fear of death, avoidant attitude to death, neutral attitude to death,escape attitude to death and conciliatory attitude to death). For the purposes of the research four hypotheses were developed, two were accepted and two were rejected. The hypothesis that the respondents with religious beliefs have less negative attitudes towards death than atheistic respondents was proved to be right. However, the hypothesis that women are more afraid of death than men was rejected.
