Economy and Entropy: Confrontation of Sustainability with Phenomena of Entropy on Example of Discussion about Substituability of Natural Resources

Abstract:

Tato práce pojednává o jednom ze základních pilířů ekologické ekonomie – konceptu relevance entropie k ekonomickým procesům a zejména čerpání neobnovitelných přírodních zdrojů; tento koncept neoklasická ekonomická teorie odmítá. Práce podává po uvedení nezbytných pojmů ze všech souvisejících oborů přehled dosavadních výsledků v této oblasti a jejich kritickou reflexi, včetně uvedení možných příčin odmítnutí tohoto konceptu neoklasickou ekonomií. Dále práce předkládá polemiku o vlastnostech systémů, v jejichž dimenzích fungují ekonomické systémy a především pokus o přenesení úhlu pohledu na relevanci entropie z termodynamické roviny, ve které byla původně entropie definována, do roviny informační. Ačkoli průkopníci konceptu relevance entropie informaci jako protiváhu entropie odmítají, jsou zde předloženy návrhy, z nichž je zřejmé, že by informace mohla hrát v tomto konceptu důležitou roli. V závěru práce je nabídnuto několik směrů, kterými by se mohl ubírat další výzkum v této oblasti.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with one of the fundamental grounds of ecological economy, the conception of relevance of entropy to the economic processes and, particularly, to the depletion of non-renewable natural resources; this conception is dismissed by the neoclassical economic theory. The thesis offers essential terms of all related disciplines first, existing results in this domain and their critical reflexion, including possible reasons of dismissing of this conception by the neoclassical economy. Then the thesis presents a disputation about properties of the systems, in their dimensions works the economic systems and, especially, an attempt to transfer the point of view the relevance of entropy from thermodynamic domain (in that it was originally defined) to domain of information theory. Although the pioneers of entropy-relevance conception decline information as a opposition of entropy, here are presented some suggestions, from that is evident, that information can be very important in this conception. There are are suggested several ways to proceed additional research of this field in the conclusion of the thesis.
