Start-up financing in theory and practice

Abstract:

V souvislosti se zvýšenou popularitou zakládání start-upů narůstá význam pro sledování problematik, které jsou přítomny v každé části životního cyklu start-upu. Cílem práce je proto zprvu přiblížit problematiku financování start-upů z širšího hlediska, aby bylo možné postupně porozumět jednotlivým aspektům financování. Dále se práce soustřeďuje na situaci start-upového prostředí v České republice, kde se v poslední době dostávají start-upy do širšího povědomí veřejnosti. Na problematiku financování navazuje praktická část. Ta má za cíl, pomocí dvou rozhovorů se dvěma zakladateli diametrálně odlišných start-upů, dále zmapovat prostředí start-upů v České republice. V rámci praktické části je také provedena diskuze propojující teoretickou část zabývající se Českou republikou s provedenými rozhovory. Z praktické části vychází najevo, jak odlišné mohou start-upy být v jejich přístupu k financování, a jak odlišně se mohou posouvat v rámci jejich životních cyklů. Dále je také možné vypozorovat, že se i díky novému trhu START a větší dostupnosti inkubátorů a akcelerátorů start-upové prostředí v České republice rozvíjí, což napomáhá vzniku start-upů s globálními ambicemi.

Abstract:

In the context of the increased popularity of start-ups, it is becoming increasingly important to monitor the issues present in every part of the start-up life cycle. Therefore, the aim of the work is to approach the issue of start-up financing at first from a broader point of view so that it is possible to gradually understand the various aspects of financing. Further, the work focuses on the start-up environment in the Czech Republic, where start-ups have recently come into the wider public consciousness. The practical part follows up the funding issue. Through two interviews with two founders of diametrically opposed start-ups, it aims to further map the start-up environment in the Czech Republic. As part of the practical part, a discussion that links the theoretical part of the Czech Republic to the interviews has been made. The practical part reveals how start-ups can differ in their approach to funding and how differently they can shift within their life cycles. It is also possible to observe that thanks to the new START market and the greater availability of incubators and accelerators, the start-up environment is developing in the Czech Republic, helping the emergence of start-ups with global ambitions.
