Linguistic Means of Tabloids and Broadsheets ( Differences and Similarities)

Abstract:

In this diploma thesis I have tried to analyze linguistic means of British tabloids and broadsheets. The theoretical part, based on linguistic works and textbooks, described all the linguistic features of newspaper style in general. It also mentioned current concepts such as tabloidization, online and investigative journalism, and desribed the current situation of the UK printed and online press. An analysis of 64 newspapers articles published on the webpages of The Sun and The Guardian was carried out. Typical features of both newspapers were described in detail and the features of The Sun were searched in The Guardian. The thesis demonstrates specific, common and different linguistic means of a British tabloid and broadsheet

Abstract:

Ve své diplomové práci jsem se pokusila analyzovat jazykové prostředky britských bulvárních a kvalitních novin. Teoretická část práce popisuje na základě různých jazykových prací, skript a učebnic základní jazykové rysy britských novinových článků. Dále se soustředila na novodobé pojmy jako je bulvarizace, internetové a investigativní zpravodajství, a popsala současnou situaci britských tištěných i internetových novin. V praktické části byla provedena analýza na základě 64 novinovách článků uveřejněných na internetových stránkách novin The Sun a The Guardian. Typické rysy pro oba dva druhy novin byly názorně popsány a rysy bulvárního The Sun byly hledány v kvalitních novinách The Guardian. Tato práce ukázala specifické, společné a rozdílné jazykové prostředky britského bulvárního a kvalitního tisku
