Children with Cerebral Palsy and their Parents' Needs

Abstract:

Cíl: Zjistit, jaké potřeby mají rodiče dětí s dětskou mozkovou obrnou, míru jejich naplnění a využívání copingových strategií. Metodika: Výzkum byl prováděn kvalitativní metodou, technikou polostrukturovaného nestandardizovaného rozhovoru. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo celkem 5 respondentů. Rozhovor byl veden s rodiči dětí, trpících dětskou mozkovou obrnou, kteří navíc splňovali předem nastavená kritéria: věk dítěte 1 18 let, ochota spolupráce, souhlas s provedením rozhovorů. Byla provedena analýza dat a následné třídění do kategorií a podkategorií. Výsledky: Výzkum poukázal na několik potřeb rodičů, které se u jednotlivých rodin liší, avšak některé se shodují. Mezi hlavní potřeby rodičů patřily: potřeba vzájemné opory a pevných vztahů, potřeba vnější pomoci, potřeba financí, potřeba zdraví, potřeba času, potřeba odpočinku, potřeba optimismu. K vyrovnanosti s diagnózou napomáhaly rodičům copingové strategie, především rodina. Závěr: Dětská mozková obrna představuje svými projevy řadu komplikací, které rodinu omezují. Každá rodina má individuální potřeby, možnosti a míru naplnění.

Abstract:

Aim: To find out what needs parents of children with cerebral palsy have, measure of their fulfilment and using of coping strategies. Methodology: The research was carried out by qualitative method, by a semi-structured non-standardized interview technique. The research group consisted of 5 respondents. The interview was conducted with parents of children suffering from cerebral palsy. They also met predefined criteria: child age 1 to 18, willingness to cooperate, consent to interviews. There was performed data analysis and subsequent classification in categories and subcategories. Results: The research pointed out several needs of parents that differ from one family to another, but some were identical. The main needs of parents included: the need for mutual support and firm relationships, the need for external assistance, the need for finances, the need for health, the need for time, the need for rest, the need for optimism. Coping strategies, especially the family, have helped parents to face up to diagnosis. Conclusion: Symptoms of cerebral palsy present a number of complications that limit the family. Each family has individual needs, opportunities and measure of fulfillment.
