Effect of emotions in investing

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce zkoumá vliv emocí na rozhodování v oblasti investování. Cílem této práce bylo najít vlivy a dopady emocí na investování a zjistit, jak jim nejlépe předejít. V empirické části práce bylo provedeno dotazníkové šetření mezi 152 investory ve věku 18 a více let. K sběru dat byly použity upravené dotazníky DERS, SVF-78 a NEO Big Five. Data byla vyhodnocena pomocí chí-kvadrát testu nezávislosti. Při testování hypotézy, zda pohlaví ovlivňuje citovou odolnost, se prokázalo, že muži jsou v této oblasti citově odolnější. Na základě těchto výsledků byla navržena doporučení pro ženy, jak posílit svou citovou odolnost. Upravím toto tvrzení takto: Jedním z doporučených přístupů je vyhýbat se negativním podnětům, pokud je to možné, nebo naopak být záměrně stimulován k emocionálnímu projevu. Byla také potvrzena hypotéza, že investoři, kteří se cítí dobře, více riskují. V období, kdy se cítíte šťastní nebo nadšení, je důležité být obezřetnější při investování, protože tyto emocionální stavy mohou vést k nadhodnocení výnosových příležitostí a podcenění rizik. V literární rešerši jsou uvedeny některé anomálie, kterým by se investoři měli vyvarovat. V závěru práce jsou navrhovány další možné oblasti výzkumu.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis examines the influence of emotions on investment decision-making. The aim of this work was to find the influences and impacts of emotions on investing and to find out how best to prevent them. In the empirical part of the work, a questionnaire survey was conducted among 152 investors aged 18 and over. Modified DERS, SVF-78, and NEO Big Five questionnaires were used to collect data. Data were evaluated using the chi-square test of independence. When testing the hypothesis that gender affects emotional resilience, it was shown that men are more emotionally resilient in this area. Based on these results, recommendations were made for women to strengthen their emotional resilience. I will modify this statement as follows: One recommended approach is to avoid negative stimuli if possible, or to be deliberately stimulated to express emotion. The hypothesis that feel-good investors take more risks was also confirmed. During periods when you feel happy or excited, it is important to be more cautious when investing, as these emotional states can lead to overestimating the profit opportunities and underestimating the risks. The literature review identifies some anomalies that investors should avoid. At the end of the thesis, other possible areas of research are proposed.
