Factors Influencing the Financial Situation of Students in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Problematika financování vysokého školství je v České republice v posledních letech hojně diskutovaným tématem. Většina prací, článků v médiích i politických projevů a rozhodnutí se zaměřuje na otázku, zda má být zavedeno školné či nikoliv případně v jaké výši. Značně menší pozornost se upírá směrem k finanční pomoci studentům na jejich živobytí během studia. Diplomová práce se proto soustředí právě na toto téma a vedle popisu současné situaci v České republice a jejího porovnání s evropskými zeměmi si dále klade za cíl pomocí logistické regrese a rozhodovacího stromu klasifikovat studenty, kteří mají finanční problémy.

Abstract:

The issue of financing the Tertiary education in the Czech Republic has been discussed many times recently. Most scientific articles and political decisions are focused on the question whether the tuition fee shall be introduced or not. Much less attention is paid to student financial support. That is why this thesis deals with this topic. There are two main parts. In the first one, there is a description of the current financial support system in the Czech Republic and in some OECD and European countries. The second part includes application of logistic regression and decision tree to classify students who have financial problems.
