Child custody for father - case study

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce zachycuje případ svěření dítěte do výhradní péče otce. V teoretické části sleduje současný stav rodiny, trend narůstání počtu rozvodů a s tím související vznik neúplných rodin. Dále práce mapuje základní okruhy, které s rozvody a svěřováním dětí do péče souvisí a současně reflektuje vliv pohlaví rodičů na výchovu a psychický vývoj dítěte. V oblasti sociologického a psychologického výzkumu byla doposud vždy věnována větší pozornost ženám – (svobodným) matkám – a i soudy stále většinově svěřují dítě po rozpadu rodiny do péče matky. Přestože význam otce v životě dítěte je také považován za velice důležitý, je pečujícím otcům věnována zatím jen velmi okrajová pozornost. V současnosti se však muži začínají aktivně zajímat o budování kvalitního vztahu ke svým dětem (hovoří se také o “nových otcích”). Otcové jsou dnes běžně přítomní u porodu, bývají na rodičovské dovolené a podobně. Případ, který jsem sledovala, však do této skupiny tak zcela nepatří. Ve své případové studii popisuji vznik a rozpad jedné rodiny s dítětem. Pro sběr dat jsem využila sérii rozhovorů a skryté pozorování. Sleduji postupný vývoj postoje otce od původního pouhého pasivního přijetí otcovství, až ke skutečně angažovanému aktivnímu převzetí zodpovědnosti v péči o dítě. Zachycuji i proces budování vztahu mezi otcem a dítětem apod. Na otázku, zda je otec schopen pečovat o dítě stejně kvalitně jako matka, mohu odpovědět kladně.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis reflects on a case of entrusting a child into the sole custody of the father. The theoretical part of the study deals with the current status of a family, growing trend of divorces and the related rise of single-parent families. The next topic is the post-divorce child custody issues, i.e. comparison of sole custody and alternate care and the influence of the parent’s sex on the child’s psychical development. A far as the relevant sociological and psychological research is concerned, more attention has always been paid to women – (single) mothers – and also the courts still tend to entrust the child into the care of a mother after a family breakdown. Although the importance of a father in a child’s life is also considered to be very significant, only a very little attention has been paid to caring fathers. However, men start to take an active interest in building good relationships with their children (so called new fatherhood). Nowadays, fathers commonly attend the child’s deliveries, they take parental leaves, etc. Nevertheless, the case studied in my thesis does not fit into this group completely. Through the data collected during a series of interviews and a concealed observation I am describing an establishment and dissolution of a family with one child. I have been following the continuous development of the father’s attitude from the originally merely passive acceptance of paternity to an active taking of responsibility for the child care, building of the relationship between him and his child, etc. The conclusion of my thesis is that a father, likewise a mother, is capable of a quality child care.
