Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with women?s enfranchisement in Britain with a special focus on the suffragette movement. This thesis also concentrates on the position of a woman in the society in the 19th century. It progresses to the general overview of the political situation. The major part deals with the suffragette movement, especially with strategies, tactics and the general perception of the movement by society. The aim of this thesis is to examine the most significant steps within the movement which led to the Representation of the People Act of 1918 and subsequently to the Equal Franchise Act of 1928.

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá hnutím sufražetek, které usilovalo o udělení všeobecného volebního práva pro ženy v Británii v 19. a na počátku 20.století. Práce se také zaměřuje na roli ženy ve viktoriánské Británii a na politickou situaci před vznikem uskupení. Hlavní část práce se zaobírá samotným hnutím sufražetek, zkoumá především strategie, taktiky a sleduje také způsob, jímž byly sufražetky vnímány společností. Cílem práce je definovat nejdůležitější kroky v rámci kampaně, které následně vedly ke schválení zákonů v roce 1918 a 1928.
