Competitiveness of the EU in Globalizing World Economy

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá zkoumáním makroekonomické konkurenceschopnosti Evropské unie se zaměřením na analýzu dílčích ukazatelů utvářející konkurenceschopnost Unie ve srovnání s dalšími světovými ekonomikami, zejména se Spojenými státy a Japonskem. Práce v první části obsahuje obecné informace vycházející z odborné literatury týkající se konkurenceschopnosti v globalizující se světové ekonomice. Dále se soustřeďuje na analýzu současného postavení Evropské unie v rámci celosvětového srovnávání konkurenceschopnosti zemí a definuje specifické faktory, které podporují či omezují konku-renceschopnost vybraných evropských ekonomik. V neposlední řadě se práce zaměřuje na konkrétní činnost Evropské unie v dané oblasti, čímž reaguje na aktuální snahy institucí EU podpořit svými politikami konkurenceschopnost členských zemí.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the issue of analysis of macroeconomic competitiveness of the European Union with a focus on an examination of a number of indicators that shape competitiveness of the Union in comparison with other economies, particularly with the United States and Japan. Firstly, paper includes general information based on specialized literature concerning competitiveness in globalizing world economy. It further focuses on the question of the current position of the European Union in terms of a worldwide comparison of competitiveness of countries and defines specific factors that endorse or constrain competitiveness of selected european economies. Last but not least the paper analyzes concrete actions of the EU in terms of given area, whereby responds on contemporary efforts of the european institutions to boost competitiveness of the member states.
