Forecasting aggregated versus disaggregated macroeconomic measures

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je na příkladu dat o počtu nezaměstnaných empiricky porovnat možnosti a limity přímého přístupu ke krátkodobé predikci agregátu této veličiny s tzv. bottom-up přístupem. V pěti kapitolách se postupně věnujeme vymezení bottom-up přístupu a literární rešerši na toto téma, použitému datovému souboru, metodologii, skriptu v R a výsledkům. V analýze, která byla založena na čtyřech námi formulovaných tvrzeních, se nepodařilo prokázat, že by se bottom-up metoda u počtu nezaměstnaných vyznačovala lepší predikční výkonností než přímý přístup.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to empirically compare the potential and limitations of the direct approach for short-term forecasting of the aggregate with the bottom-up approach using data on the number of unemployed individuals. In five chapters, we discuss the definition of the bottom-up approach and a literature review on this topic, the dataset used, the methodology, the script in R and the results. The analysis based on the four hypotheses we formulated did not demonstrate that the bottom-up approach has a superior forecasting performance compared to the direct approach.
