Sharenting from the perspective of adolescents

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou sharentingu, tedy sdílením osobních údajů o dětech jejich rodiči v online prostoru. Práce se zaměřuje na české adolescenty (N = 1112; ženy 86.2 %; muži 13.8 %; věk M = 18.35; SD = 1.43), přičemž prostřednictvím kvantitativního výběrového šetření zkoumá jejich postoje k této problematice. Teoretická stať vymezuje období adolescence a s ním související důležité hodnoty, dále detailně představuje problematiku sharentingu, a to přes vyplývající rizika i benefity až po preventivní strategie a motivace rodičů. V návaznosti na uvedené teoretické koncepty jsou definovány výzkumné hypotézy a uvedeny způsoby měření a analýzy dat. Závěry poukazují na to, že ti adolescenti, kteří se více obávají o své online soukromí, mají negativnější postoje k sharentingu. Naopak ti, kteří pokládají za motivaci rodičů informačně-archivační motiv, se k sharentingu staví pozitivněji. Navazující výzkum by mohl prozkoumat další faktory, které by mohly postoj k sharentingu ovlivňovat.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the problematics of sharenting, i.e., the sharing of children's personal data by their parents in the online space. The work focuses on Czech adolescents (N = 1112; women 86.2%; men 13.8%; age M = 18.35; SD = 1.43), examining their attitudes towards this issue through a quantitative sample survey. The theoretical part defines the period of adolescence and related significant values, it also presents in detail the problematics of sharenting, from the associated risks and benefits to the preventive strategies as well as parents’ motivations. According to presented theoretical concepts, research hypotheses are defined, and methods of data measurement and analysis are introduced. The findings suggest that those adolescents who are more concerned about their online privacy have more negative attitudes toward sharenting. On the contrary, those who consider the informative-archiving motive as the parent’s motivation are more positive about sharenting. Follow-up research could explore other factors that could influence attitudes toward sharenting.
