Time orientation and anxiety of athletes engaged in risky sports

Abstract:

Předkládaná studie si kladla za cíl nalézt vztah mezi dimenzemi časové orientace, úzkostí a účastí na rizikovém sportu parašutismu. Byla použita česká verze dotazníku časové orientace (ZTPI) a dotazníku úzkosti a úzkostlivosti (STAI). Administrace dotazníku proběhla prostřednictvím sociální sítě facebook a spoluprací se třemi sportovními letišti ČR. Výzkumu se zúčastnilo 120 sportovních parašutistů (33 žen), jejichž průměrný věk byl 32,2 let. Statistická analýza dat přinesla podstatný poznatek o převaze hédonické orientace na přítomnost oproti zbylým kategoriím časové orientace. Zajímavým zjištěním je statisticky významný vztah zkušenosti se smrtí blízké osoby během provozování parašutismu a kategoriemi hédonické orientace na přítomnost a orientace na budoucnost. Dalším přínosným výsledkem je skutečnost, že mezi zkoumanými parašutisty nebyli žádní vysoce úzkostliví jedinci. Dle závěru zkoumaní parašutisté nepociťují vysokou míru úzkosti ani před seskokem. Proměnná úzkosti jako osobnostního rysu jedince pozitivně korelovala s časovou orientací negativní minulosti. Překvapivé bylo zjištění míry rizikovosti, kterou respondenti přiřazují rizikovému sportu parašutismu. Za rizikový sport označilo parašutismus 37,50 % respondentů, 44,17 % respondentů jej vnímá jako nerizikový.

Abstract:

The purpose of a present study is aimed to find the relationship between time perspective, an anxiety of skydivers and a participation in skydiving itself. A Czech version of the questionnaire of time orientation (ZTPI) and the questionnaire of Anxiety (STAI) was used. The data were summarized by questionnaires via Facebook social network and with the cooperation with three sporty airports in the Czech Republic. There were 120 sport parachutists (33 women) whose average age was 32.2 years attended the research. The first interesting finding is that hedonic present dominates among the examined skydivers. An interesting finding is a significant relationship with death of a loved person during a skydiving itself and present hedonic and future time orientation. Another interesting fact is that among the examined skydivers there were no highly anxious individuals. The majority of skydivers do not feel a high level of anxiety even before the jump itself. The variety of anxiety as a personality trait of individuals positively correlated with a temporal orientation of a negative past. The unexpected finding was the level of risk that skydivers connected to skydiving itself. There were only 37.50% respondents who perceive skydiving as a hazardous sport and 44.17% of them who perceive it as non-hazardous.
