Reflection of the War Events in Bosnia and Herzegovina in Years 1994 – 1995 on Pages of the Contemporary Czech Press

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá válkou v Bosně a Hercegovině v letech 1994 – 1995 a mediálním obrazem těchto událostí ve vybraném českém dobovém tisku. Je zaměřena na rozbor a komparaci novinových článků v denících Mladá fronta Dnes a Rudé právo. Dále je věnován prostor vyjádřením předních českých politiků a vlády České republiky k válečným událostem v Bosně a Hercegovině. Práce vychází ze studia odborné literatury k tématu, především v úvodní části, ve které je krátce shrnut historický vývoj Bosny a Hercegoviny od devatenáctého století. Cílem práce je analyzovat a porovnat komentáře k válečným událostem v Bosně a Hercegovině v českém dobovém tisku v letech 1994-1995, zjistit jakým způsobem reflektovala vybraná česká periodika probíhající konflikt a z případných rozdílů vyvodit závěry.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis concerns the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the years 1994-1995 and its reflection in selected contemporary Czech press. It focuses on the analysis and comparison of newspaper articles in the newspapers Mladá fronta Dnes and Rudé Pravo. Then there are also added opinions of the leading Czech politicians and the Government of the Czech Republic about war events in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Thesis is based on the study of historical literature on the topic, especially in the introductory part, which briefly summarizes the historical development of Bosnia and Herzegovina since the late nineteenth century. The aim of the thesis is to analyze and compare comments on the events of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina in Czech contemporary press in years 1994-1995, determine how selected Czech periodicals reflected on the conflict and draw conclusions from the potential differences.
