The Cyprus issue as a stumbling-block on Turkey's way to the EU

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se věnuje analýze kyperského problému ve spojitosti s tureckým úsilím o vstup do Evropské unie. Struktura práce je výhradně chronologická, čímž kopíruje přístupový proces Turecka do EU od samého počátku do současnosti. Do této pomyslné časové osy jsou promítány ty momenty, při kterých kyperský problém sehrál relevantní roli. Práce se mimo tento rámec věnuje i rozboru samotného pojmu kyperský problém a analýze tzv. Annanova plánu, jako relevantního návrhu řešení kyperského problému ze strany Organizace spojených národů. Práce si klade za cíl najít odpověď na otázku, do jaké míry problematika rozděleného Kypru brzdí Turecko na jeho cestě do sjednocené Evropy a potvrdit či vyvrátit hypotézu, že kyperská otázka je zcela zásadní překážkou na turecké cestě do EU, a přesto Turecko nepřispívá k jejímu vyřešení.

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis provides an analysis of the Cyprus problem in connection with the Turkish efforts to join the European Union. The structure of the work is entirely in chronological order, which follows the accession process of Turkey into the European Union from the beginning to the present. In this imaginary time axis there are shown the moments at which the Cyprus problem has played relevant role. Outside this framework thesis deals with the analysis of the Cyprus problem concept and so-called Annan plan, as the United Nations relevant proposal for the solution of the Cyprus problem. Bachelor thesis aim is to find the answer to question, how divided Cyprus obstructs Turkish way to the united Europe and to confirm or overcome the hypothesis, that the Cyprus question is a major obstacle on Turkey's way to the EU, and Turkey still has not contributed to its solution.
