The aim of this thesis is to examine the three novels written by the English novelist and poet Thomas Hardy with regard to his criticism of the Victorian society. The three Wessex novels are: Far from the Madding Crowd, Tess of the d'Urberville and Jude the Obscure. Thorough reading and subsequent analysis confirms Hardy's critique from many aspects.
