Is the world really heading for the IFRS global acceptance?

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá postavením IFRS ve světě z hlediska minulosti, současnosti i budoucnosti. Shrnuje jejich historii od prvopočátku v roce 1973 až dodnes s důrazem na jejich mezinárodní přijímání. Podrobná analýza historických milníků poukazuje na komplikovanost procesu rozšiřování napříč jednotlivými zeměmi a rovněž zdůrazňuje jejich dopad na aktuální postavení IFRS. Analýza současného stavu, založená na datech z celosvětového průzkumu IASB, se snaží zodpovědět otázku, zda lze považovat IFRS za globální rámec účetního výkaznictví s využitím čtyř kvantitativně stanovených klasifikačních znaků: počet jazykových překladů, počet zemí, počet společností a velikost těchto společností měřená tržní kapitalizací. V závěru diplomová práce nastiňuje příležitosti a hrozby, se kterými se IASB v blízké budoucnosti bude muset vypořádat.

Abstract:

This thesis is devoted to the position of the IFRS in the world with regard to the past, the present and the future. It sums up its history from the beginning in 1973 to this day with emphasis on its international acceptance. Thorough analysis of the historical milestones indicates the complexity of the process of expanding across individual countries and also emphasizes its impact on the current position of IFRS. The analysis of the present state based on the worldwide IASB survey data, tries to answer the question, whether it's possible to consider IFRS as a global frame of financial reporting with the usage of four quantitatively determined characters: number of language translations, number of countries, number of companies and their size measured by the market capitalization. At the end the thesis outlines opportunities and threats that the IASB will have to deal with in the future.
