Traditions and customs of Muslim families living in Brno

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce Tradice a zvyky muslimských rodin žijících v Brně je netradiční sondou do každodenního života muslimských rodin žijících v největším moravském městě. Hlavním záměrem bylo nahlédnout do rodinného islámského života a objasnit význam tradic a zvyků z pohledu samotných rodin. Odhaluje také, jak mají rodiny ve zvyku trávit svůj volný čas a jestli jsou se životem v největší moravské metropoli spokojeni. Teoretická část vymezuje podstatné informace o historii islámu, povinnostech každého muslima a především o rodině praktikující islám ve všech směrech. Praktická část tvoří kvalitativní výzkum realizovaný na základě polostrukturovaných rozhovorů jak s ortodoxními muslimkami, tak s muslimy, kteří praktikují islám jen do jisté míry. Práce může být zajímavá nejen pro ty, kteří se zajímají o religionistiku, odlišné kultury nebo politickou situaci, naopak – ještě zajímavější může být pro všechny, kteří se dosud o islám příliš nezajímali, nebo jej vnímali jen poměrně povrchně prostřednictvím médií.

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis Traditions And Customs of Muslim families in Brno is an innovative insight of the everyday lives of Muslim families living in the Moravian city. The main intention was to preview the Islamic family life, clarifying perceptions and experiences of their traditions and customs in Brno. The thesis brings answers to questions such as: How do Muslim families in Brno perceive traditions and customs? How do parents raise their children in relation to traditions and customs? The thesis also clarifies how families usually spend their free time and whether they are satisfied with life in the largest Moravian metropolis. The theoretical part outlines essential information on Islam, duties of every Muslim and primarily about families practising Islam in all aspects. The practical part consists of qualitative research realised on the basis of semi-structured interviews both with orthodox female Muslims and Muslims practising Islam to a certain extent only. The paper may be interesting not only for thoese who are interested in religious studies, different culture or political situation, on the contrary – it may be even more interesting for all who did not care too much about Islam or perceived them only throught superficial way of media.
