New Urbanism and the 'Urban Community' Ideal

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis presents the New Urbanism movement as one of the lines of thought within the current urban planning and urban design. This American movement is trying to change the current theories and practices of construction, leading to the development of large suburbs, and replacing by the detailed planning for the construction of the urban environment, so that was developed public street life and local communities. More work analyzes the importance that community in terms of New Urbanism and receive the assistance of the current theory of critical community appreciates the efforts of its development through movement practices that rely primarily on architecture, urban planning and design. In this analysis seeks to highlight the current understanding of the community be problematic in the immediate commitment to a geographic location, as well as in the case of New Urbanism. The work is largely based on theoretical knowledge, but for a better description and analysis are presented in the conclusion of work and specific projects undertaken by new urbanism.

Abstract:

Bakalárska práca predstavuje hnutie Nového Urbanizmu ako jeden z myšlienkových smerov v rámci súčasného mestského plánovania a mestského designu. Toto americké hnutie sa snaží o zmenu súčasnej teórie a praktík výstavby, vedúcich k rozvoju rozsiahlych suburbií, a nahradením ich detailným plánovaním výstavby mestského prostredia tak, aby došlo k rozvoju verejného pouličného života a miestnych komunít. Práca bližšie analyzuje význam, ktorý komunita v ponímaní Nového Urbanizmu dostáva a za pomoci súčasnej teórie komunity kriticky zhodnocuje snahu o jej vytvorenie pomocou praktík hnutia, ktoré spočívajú predovšetkým v architektúre, mestskom plánovania a designe. Pri tejto analýze sa snaží poukázať na problematickosť chápania súčasnej komunity v tesnej viazanosti na geografickú lokalitu, ako je to aj v prípade Nového Urbanizmu. Práca vychádza hlavne z teoretických poznatkov, avšak pre lepší popis a analýzu sú v závere práce predstavené aj konkrétne projekty realizované Novým Urbanizmom.
