The complexity of microworlds and subworlds in the fictional world of TV films produced by the Ostrava CT studio between 2008-2015 in the context of quality TV

Abstract:

Předmětem bakalářské práce jsou neoformalistická analýzy tří televizních filmů (TV filmy) z ostravské produkce České televize mezi lety 2008-2015. Jedná se o tyto filmy: Occamova břitva (2012), Ženy, které nenávidí muže (2012) a Sráči (2011). Jako kontext neoformalistické analýzy bude sloužit pojem quality TV (QTV), který má poukázat na specifické rysy QTV, jež jsou definované teoretiky TV studies. Za pomoci nástrojů neoformalistické analýzy, které se týkají jen vyprávění, fikčního světa a narativních modalit, se pokusím najít ve výše zmíněných TV filmech takové narativní postupy, jež potvrdí přítomnost kritérií definovanými QTV. Výsledky, ke kterým jsem dospěl, potvrdily, že vybrané TV filmy pracují s komplexností dějových linií a nejednoznačností postav (mikrosvětů) ve vyprávění, což jsou rysy QTV, na které poukazuje Daniela Schlützová. Z výsledků provedených analýz jsem vybral postavy, jež tyto rysy splňují. Tyto vybrané postavy jsem navzájem porovnal z hlediska počtů opakování rysů QTV. Jako nástroj při porovnávání těchto rysů jsem použil narativní modality - ke zjištění nejednoznačnosti vybraných postav - a počet sjednocení a oddělení skupin postav (subsvětů) - s jejichž pomocí jsem byl schopen sledovat komplexnost dějových linií u právě zvolených postav. Závěrečné výsledky potvrdily, že největší počet nejednoznačnosti a komplexnosti dějových linií disponuje postava Davida Vlka z TV filmu Ženy, které nenávidí muže.

Abstract:

The subject of the bachelor's thesis is a neoformalist analysis of three television films (TV films) from the production of Czech Television Ostrava studio during 2008-2015: The Occam's Razor (2012), The Lethal Woman (2012) and The Fuckers (2011). The notion of quality TV (QTV) will serve as a context for the neoformalist analysis to highlight the specific features of QTV as defined by TV studies theorists. Using the tools of neoformalist analysis, which are concerned only with narrative, fictional world and narrative modalities, I will try to find in the above mentioned TV films narrative practices that confirm the presence of the criteria defined by QTV. The results I arrived at confirmed that the selected TV films work with the complexity of storylines and the ambiguity of characters (microworlds) in the narrative, which are features of QTV pointed out by Daniela Schlütz. From the results of the analyses I have selected characters that fulfil these features. I compared these selected characters with each other in terms of the number of repetitions of QTV features. As a tool in comparing these traits, I used narrative modalities - to determine the ambiguity of the selected characters - and the number of unifications and separations of groups of characters (subworlds) - with the help of which I was able to observe the complexity of the storylines in the currently selected characters. The final results confirmed that the character of David Vlk from the TV movie The Lethal Woman has the highest number of ambiguity and complexity of plot lines.
